♡ 64 ( +1 | -1 ) Why Morphy would beat Capa if he got 3 months prepWith 3 months preparation Morphy would humiliate Capablanca. Why? 1. No man has never been so dominant man-man over the board as Morphy. 2. No man has ever been so reluctant about his chess as Morphy - In other words: he had an enormous capacity no man ever forced him to show. 3.Quoting Maksim Gorkij.(not exact Im from sweden) "Man finds himself in the opposition to his surroundings" This means that he only got as good as he was forced to, and he had no urge to outclass his opponents for our joy today, but was ashamed of being a chessplayer and was a gentlemen who gave away his pricemoney to get some nice games with other gentlemen!! Im awaiting EDMASTER TO SUPPORT ME!! WHERE R U CHESSCOMRADE!!

♡ 44 ( +1 | -1 ) I am sorry, but Philidor wasn't that dominating during his time. Look in any serious database for Philidor's games. You will find him scoring approximately 70-75% against a bunch of random contemporaries, basically a bunch of patzers. At least so says the database I am accessing ...
In same database, a search on Morphy's games finds him scoring about the same, in the 70+% range, but against much tougher opposition (Anderssen, Paulsen, De Riviere, etc)
