I hope that too ... But only recall that there has been a sad story and not the why. Can anyone shed some light? Otherwise just wondering how he is doing in the Olympiad? Or any particular good link for it that would be postable here? If so, thanks! }8-)

Myasthenia Gravis, I Believe My memory could be faulty, but I recall that Mecking developed this condition and was only able to return to play a few years ago after decades of trying various treatments . . .

I met and played some games with him on www.chessclub.com in 1997/98, shortly after he returned to chess again. He is now a deep religious man and he had some really strong statements about religion and what that had done to him.
He hadn't forgotten how the pieces was moving, on the checked board :-))
