♡ 49 ( +1 | -1 ) Playchess.com with fritzWith FRITZ 7 AND higher you have the ability to go on the playchess.com server, which i find is great. There i normally just play 5min games with no increment. My current rating is about 1770 for blitz and 1630 for bullet, does anyone know what that rank means? Some are bishop pawn or knight, and other chess pieces, im currently a pawn what does that mean? What is everyone elses rating?

♡ 34 ( +1 | -1 ) See Playchess FAQHow you become a Knight etc is answered in the Playchess FAQ.
See www.chessbase.com/playchess/faq.asp
I play (badly!) on Playchess.com too. They are two complementary sites. Playchess is great for Blitz games, and for watching top players play in "real time". GK is great for long, correspondence-style games.

♡ 30 ( +1 | -1 ) I play there as well....The ranks are simply a function of how active a player you are (not how high rated you are). I had a high activity rank for a while - but then dropped back to a pawn after I had been away for a while. It is just a measure of recent (I think in the last month) activity. As jthorp points out - best to check the Faq.

♡ 22 ( +1 | -1 ) thanks for that i did notice however that the higher ranked people normally have high ratings. I find playchess a lot better than icc, and its also free, fritz is great value for money.

♡ 26 ( +1 | -1 ) It's also very handy that fritz automatically transfers the games to your database which you can check over. Does the new version of fritz come out yearly e.g. the next one will be fritz 9 or maybe it will have a different name.

♡ 26 ( +1 | -1 ) rankRank doesnt simply depend on activity, you also have to have a certain rating to reach a certain rank (1400 for Bishop, 2000 or something for rook, etc.). Only Knight rank can be achieved simply through being active.

♡ 10 ( +1 | -1 ) Finduriel...Thanks for the clarification. I had never noticed that. It is true that you lose rank for inactivity?
finduriel
♡ 45 ( +1 | -1 ) yesyou can. I just got degraded from a Knight to a pawn because I hadn't played for a month or so. I guess it's the same with higher ranks, but I'm not sure (I'm a lousy blitz player, so I'll probably never know). Did you know that top-of-the-line players like John Nunn and Michael Adams play there regularly? This is really exciting! On Sunday there's gonna be the Internet Euro-Championships. Should be worth a peek or two.
